Almost there for GS and TS “Priority” Registration in 2 weeks!

GS Safari now oh so close!
It’s going to be an exciting and interesting 6 days for GS riders beginning on Sunday 2 March with close to 180 participants, crew and press taking part in the biggest BMW GS Safari to date. There will be a representative from most of the bike media so expect to read about your exploits later in the year. We also have a DVD being made of the event which will be available for purchase and which you will be able to pre-order at the Farewell Dinner.

We completed another, and final recce in mid-January. Conditions were very hot and dusty but great fun if you’re riding in front! The latter part of the first day’s ride has been changed to avoid a fire prone area and although this shortens the ride by some 70 kms it means you won’t be riding 60 kms of tarmac at the end of the day. It is a great route with a big variation in surface and track conditions and a good first day to get everyone confident and comfortable. We estimate trip time including a stop for refreshment at around 6 hours.

Day 2 has reverted to Plan A with the “closed” road now re-opened. So you should be able to ride over the bridge rather than wrestle your bike through a boulder-strewn river and not have to carry your bike over a huge landslide!

Day 3 remains the same…short but incredibly sweet…a spectacular ride straight over the top of the mountains with scenery to die for….but if you keep your eyes on where you are going that won’t be necessary!

For Day 4 we explored at least half a dozen side tracks which from the map looked like they went somewhere…this was just to add a little spice to what is already an excellent day. Unfortunately all went nowhere…fallen trees, locked gates, private roads…but don’t worry you won’t be disappointed.

Day 5 has changed with the mooted steep downhill mountain section, towards the end of the ride, definitely out of the equation….this would have been only for the highly skilled on such big bikes, and unfortunately you are not in the majority. All riders will now be on the same track so that our technical and tyre crew can properly support the group. We expect everyone at the Farewell Dinner venue in plenty of time to freshen up before the festivities kick off.

A separate email will be coming through to all registered participants in the next few days covering “What to wear”, “What to bring”, “Luggage truck arrangements”, “Accommodation bookings/Confirmations/Payments”, “Tyres and where they will be changed”, “Registration procedure/time”, “Bikes Only transportees pick-up time in Canberra”. If you don’t have email you won’t be reading this but a copy will be in the mail.

BMW TS Safari
BMW TS Safari priority registrations (all those who have previously attended a BMW Safari) open in mid-February and for all others registrations commence 1 March. Priority Registration forms are sent as an email attachment to our Safari database or by post to those who display no interest in online communication….the stamps, the envelopes, the paper…do you have no conscience?
